Motorola 'Stadia' trademark application hints at device with gaming / fitness features

It's not exactly a ton to go on, but a trademark application recently filed by Motorola for the word "Stadia" has at least opened up a few interesting possibilities. While the (as yet nonexistent) device in question is seemingly phone-related given the goods and services Motorola is hoping to have covered, the application also specifically mentions a "game device in the nature of handheld units for playing electronic games for use with external display screen or monitor," along with a number of fitness-related functions like heart rate, speed, and calorie monitoring. That latter bit is further backed up by a separate "Stadia" trademark application filed by Motorola back in November, which specifically covered "fitness monitoring devices." What does it all mean? If we had to guess we'd say it's some sort of fitness accessory designed for use with a phone (possibly with some game-like features). Unfortunately, guessing is about all we can do at the moment.

About.Me Has 400,000 Beta Testers, Opens Doors To All

In September About.me started letting people reserve names for its personal profile page. They guaranteed your name (I'm about.me/mike, for example) and started letting those people in slowly in batches. Well, not so slowly I guess, since the company says 400,000 sites have now been created, and another 20,000 on the waiting list were let in overnight. And starting today anyone can go to the site and start using it immediately.

Hack brings Android 2.3's improved keyboard to rooted 2.2 phones

The Android 2.3 SDK has just been rolled out -- and that means it's time for the hacking to commence! The crew at Droid Life has already backported one big chunk of the Gingerbread release to a Froyo device: the improved on-screen keyboard.

Certain functionality is missing at this point -- most notably auto-complete -- so it may be worth holding off for a more polished release before shoehorning the 2.3 keyboard onto your phone. If you're the adventurous type, however, head on over to Droid Life for the required downloads and complete instructions. Remember, your phone must be rooted to pull this off.

Skyfire 3.0.1 for Android brings SD storage and background download notification

skyfire

Skyfire, an alternative browser for Android, has just been updated to version 3.0.1. This is a minor point update, so they haven't even bothered updating the splash screen - it still shows as 3.0 when I load it on my device.

Still, the update is noteworthy, if only for the fact that it supports Froyo's ability to store apps on the SD card, so you don't have to sacrifice any of your device's precious onboard storage space for Skyfire. Froyo users will also enjoy being able to upload files from the browser.

Even if you're not running Froyo, though, it's a worthy update: Crash reporting has been improved, as well as the browser's background download capabilities. There's a barcode waiting for you after the jump.
