Giving how the web has transformed photo sharing, it's a little odd that it hasn't done much to the tangible photo space. Sure, just about all of the major sites allow you to order prints, and many allow you to create fairly simple photobooks, but those are essentially the same products they've always been ? they're just slightly easier to make. Keepsy wants to change things up. The new startup founded by Peter Weck and Blake Williams, focuses on creating "more than a photo album." Essentially, they use the social dynamics of the web to crowdsource the creation of photo albums amongst friends. So instead of me making a photo album for you filled with the pictures I have with the two of us in them, a group of friends bring all their pictures together to make the book. Everyone needs a bit more workspace, right? You know Santa doesn't slum with a 19-inch monitor anymore. That's why we're giving away a brand new 24-inch LED monitor from Sceptre. 2ms response time, 5,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, a 1920 x 1080 panel -- yessir, this will certainly bright up your holidays. The retail sticker on this ultra-thin, ultra-fast bad boy is $269 but that doesn't matter. It could be yours for nothing more than a price of a comment. Thanks to a single sentence in a New York Times article, a number of blogs are trumpeting the first public demonstration of Windows 8 at CES in January. It was already known that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer would be on stage to showcase a handful of slates, but would they really be running the first builds of Windows.next already? According to the Times, a source "with knowledge of Microsoft's plans" believed "Ballmer might demonstrate a tablet and other companion devices running the next operating system, Windows 8." However, as Tom Warren points out, Microsoft is currently laying out the groundwork for Windows 8 -- planning and preparing for what Ballmer called Microsoft's "riskiest product bet." January seems a bit soon to be showing off something your CEO thinks is your "riskiest bet," especially considering this is the same company that just tried to launch the Kin. While there may indeed be a prototype or concept device on display, there's a good chance it could run an existing flavor of Windows with a slate-specific UI on top. Windows 8 itself, however, will likely not be on display. No Windows 8 demo at CES in January? originally appeared on Download Squad on Tue, 14 Dec 2010 07:30:00 EST. I'm addicted to browser tabs. I probably open several hundred of them each day during my regular web browsing. And today brings good news: Google wants to reward me for that. Well technically, Google wants to reward charities on my behalf for my obsessive web browsing. A new initiative today called "Chrome for a Cause" asks you to download a Google-made Chrome extension that will note your tab opening activity and allow you to donate to one of five charities at the end of each day based on your usage. Yep, just browse the web, and donate to charity.Source: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/Techcrunch/~3/3Es0fdqvEjc/
