Monster iClarityHD Precision Micro Bluetooth Speaker 100 Review

The Monster iClarityHD Precision Micro Bluetooth Speaker 100′s name might be bigger than the speaker itself, but it packs a lot of sound into that small space. It also makes a fine hands-free audio bridge (speaker & mic) for your Bluetooth-enabled devices. It does this in an attractive and very portable package that will grind [...]

Kamikaze Blocks is an explosive Time Waster

kamikazeblocks
When I write up a game, I usually have to classify it one way or the other: either it's an arcade-type game, or it's something more cerebral. Well, Kamikaze Blocks is one game that says, "why choose?"

The premise of the game is simple: It's a physics shooter, the type where you have to set off one or more explosive charges to blow all the blocks off the board. But what's unique about it is that you can choose whether or not you'd like to have a limited supply of shots every level. So if you want easy, arcade-style gameplay, you've got it - just use unlimited shots and blow those blocks off the board like there's no tomorrow.

On the other hand, if you're actually interested in a puzzle experience, simply select to have a limited number of shots, and there you go. Each level has a different quota of shots, depending on how complex it is.

Another thing I like about this game is the part where the fish eat the blocks once they've fallen off the stage. They make a really cute chewing sound!

SMS to Swype for Android adds your common words to Swype's dictionary

Earlier, Erez covered Swype's excellent word-learning abilities. Not only is its built-in dictionary comprehensive, but it also learns names from your address book. There's still one stumbling block to switching to Swype, though: all of your custom words and phrases that you've already added to the dictionary. Depending on where you live, and your circle of friends, you probably use very different 'txtspk', and adding them manually to Swype is a pain in the ass.

SMS to Swype, however, is a tiny app that simply adds every unique word in your SMSes to your Swype dictionary. It takes just two or three clicks and, if you have a wealth of SMSes on your phone, you won't ever have to run it again. It's free, and available from the Android Market, AppBrain, or use the QR code after the break.

Visualized: the Power Mac G4 clock

What do you do with that once state of the art Power Mac? Well, you could always empty the case and add a "cheap clock mechanism," in the words of our friend Justin -- who emailed us some pictures of his latest creation this morning. But don't forget the Mighty Mouse pendulum: that's what really won us over. Hit the source link for more glamor shots.

Google Voice number porting officially launched

After a bit of a false start, Google's finally officially turned on Google Voice number porting for all existing users. $20 is all it takes to swap your main line over to the service, although you'll have to cancel your existing service contracts to make it all happen. The service is currently only for existing GV users, so you can't open a new account and port straight away, but Google says new accounts will get the option in the "next few weeks." So -- anyone out there going to take the plunge?

Facebook Commerce Head Deb Liu Addresses Concerns About Mandatory Facebook Credits

After the news that Facebook Credits would become mandatory in five months was broken yesterday, Facebook Head of Product Marketing Deb Liu addressed developer concerns today at the Inside Social Apps conference. When moderator Eric Eldon alluded to fears that mandatory Facebook Credits would put some developers out of business, Liu said, "Every single day we know developers get to choose between our platforms and another platform" a statement which was met with laughter from the audience, as Facebook is the most dominant player in the space and for some the only option for such large scale distribution. Liu recomposed, "We want to make Facebook the most attractive place to invest, and keep users with credits in their pockets."

Verizon confirms iPhone will get $30 unlimited data plan, we try to act surprised (update: WiFi tethering prices)

Verizon confirms iPhone will get $30 unlimited data plan, we try to act surprised
Hot on the heels of re-tooling its data plans Verizon is now confirming that the iPhone will indeed be eligible for the company's $30 unlimited data plan. COO Lowell McAdam told The Wall Street Journal "I'm not going to shoot myself in the foot," thus confirming what we already knew and showing his keen sense for both business and self-preservation. No comment on whether discontinuing the company's $15, 150MB monthly data plan will result in penetration wounds to any other appendages, but time will tell on that one.

Update: As spotted by SlashGear, WSJ has posted an update indicating that the unlimited plan is a decidedly limited time thing, with tiered pricing to come in the "not too distant future." Intrigue!

Update 2: And Macworld's confirmed that Verizon's iPhone WiFi data tethering pricing will be the same as all their other phones: $20 a month on top of your regular data plan, with a separate 2GB cap and $20-per-gig overage charges.

[Thanks, Mike]

Dwolla, the low-fee PayPal alternative, now for Windows Phone 7

A little while back, we told you about Dwolla -- a new payment service with its sights set on challenging PayPal. Dwolla's angle? A flat rate per transaction of $0.25 and no other fees of any kind. It's also integrated with Twitter and Facebook, which makes it easy to send money to (or receive from) the people you're interacting with most online.

Now, Dwolla is expanding its mobile offerings with a new Windows Phone 7 app -- which joins its Android and iOS offerings. Like the Dwolla apps for other mobile platforms, the app provides a simple, straightforward interface which allows you to send payments, check your balance, and view your contacts. Sending a payment is a breeze -- just choose a contact, enter the amount, your pin, and a comment (if any) and you're done. You can also opt to pay the 25-cent fee yourself, or let the recipient absorb it.

Dwolla is a free download and is available now in the Zune Marketplace. The service is currently U.S.-only.
