Wicked Laser S3 Arctic Laser Review

This past summer there was a great deal of talk of Wicked Lasers producing an insanely powerful, 1 watt blue laser called the S3 (Spyder III Pro) Arctic. It was all over the web from Gizmodo to Squidoo.  They were discussing, not only how extremely cool/dangerous it is but how LucasFilm sent a cease-and-desist letter [...]

FlickSquare automatically sends your Foursquare check-in photos to Flickr

FlickSquare: Foursquare check-in photo integration to FlickrLast week Foursquare rolled out an incredibly important and contemporary new feature: check-in photos. Foursquare is a far cry from being a primary photo-sharing site, however, which is why a quick-thinking developer has made a Web app that automatically forwards your Foursquare photos to Flickr: FlickSquare.

All you need to do is sign into your Foursquare account, connect with FlickSquare, and finish by telling Flickr to let the app access your account. From now on, all new photos check-ins should be mirrored on Flickr [Can anyone confirm if it mirrors existing check-in photos, too?]

In case you're wondering, FlickSquare also tags the Flickr uploads with the Foursquare venue machine tag, which will create a rich resource of cross-linked venues and photos. Take a look at the number of photos already on Flickr that have been tagged with a Foursquare venue; cool, eh?

Microsoft's ARM move is about offering the same Windows experience on all kinds of devices

Tonight was the big CES 2011 keynote by Microsoft head honcho Steve Ballmer, and Windows on ARM took center stage. Those of you hoping to see some in-depth ARM action -- well, you'll have to wait until Microsoft and its partners have had a bit more time to flesh things out.

If the interface looks familiar to you, that's because at this point we're looking at a new version of Windows beneath the current Windows 7 UI. No new Windows features are on display at this point, but Internet Explorer 9, and Office for ARM were the only apps on display -- as well as a recompiled Epson print driver which made a brief background appearance to spit out a short Word document. The demo on Nvidia's Tegra 2 hardware was particularly impressive, playing back the Iron Man 2 trailer in full HD without so much as a hiccup and running IE9 HTML5 demos with aplomb.

According to Ballmer, the move to embrace ARM is all about meeting customer expectations. Users increasingly expect the same experience on all their devices -- from desktop to laptop to smartphone. Windows, he said, can provide that experience, and Microsoft will continue working not only with ARM partners like Nvidia, Qualcomm, and Texas Instruments, but also x86 kingpins Intel and AMD to achieve their goal.

Instagram Shuffle Adds Roulette To Photo-Sharing

Instagram is no doubt the latest rage in photo sharing, recently crossing one million users after less three months of being open to the public. While the company is planning to open up its API in the near future, one developer has built a nifty new app on top of Instragram that has a roulette type of feature to access photos created and published via Instagram's iPhone app. Called Instagram Shuffle (http://instagram.tk/), the web site displays photos uploaded to Twitter using Instagram in real time. Every time you refresh the page (or click on Shuffle) a new image published by an Instagram user appears. It's important to note that Instagram Shuffle does not include photos that were not posted to Twitter via the Instagram app (users can also post photos to Facebook and Flickr).
